Commitment of Traders Update – May 2nd, 2026

  • by

CAD – Canadian Dollar

  • Speculators: Net Short -38,473 (longs +5,628; shorts -14,730)
  • Commercials: Net Long 37,143
  • % Long Ratio: 38.78%

Specs are still net short the Loonie, but the weekly change is telling — longs added, shorts covered. That’s two bullish flows in the same week. Commercials remain firmly net long.

CHF – Swiss Franc

  • Speculators: Net Short -35,221 (longs -2,013; shorts -65)
  • Commercials: Net Long 42,729
  • % Long Ratio: 13.26%

CHF positioning is oversold. A 13.26% long ratio is the kind of lopsided reading that historically precedes a reversal. Commercials are sitting on a heavy net-long position while specs keep piling onto the wrong side. When sentiment is this stretched and the underlying tape is constructive, that’s a setup worth watching closely.

GBP – British Pound

  • Speculators: Net Short -60,639 (longs -3,509; shorts +5,091)
  • Commercials: Net Long 64,120
  • % Long Ratio: 33.14%

Specs leaned further short on Sterling this week — longs trimmed, shorts added.

JPY – Japanese Yen

  • Speculators: Net Short -102,059 (longs +5,144; shorts +12,743)
  • Commercials: Net Long 99,270
  • % Long Ratio: 33.81%

The Yen short is now the largest speculative position in the report — over 100,000 contracts net short. Both longs and shorts grew this week, but shorts grew faster.

EUR – Euro

  • Speculators: Net Long 35,712 (longs -316; shorts +5,296)
  • Commercials: Net Short -75,137
  • % Long Ratio: 54.48%

The Euro is one of only two majors where specs are net long, but the weekly flow was bearish — longs trimmed, shorts added. Commercials are heavily short. Positioning here isn’t extreme in either direction — it’s a market in the middle of its range, and the smart-money/dumb-money split suggests caution on chasing Euro longs.

NZD – New Zealand Dollar

  • Speculators: Net Short -46,322 (longs +1,127; shorts -1,005)
  • Commercials: Net Long 47,550
  • % Long Ratio: 14.04%

NZD is oversold. Same story as the Swiss: a sub-15% long ratio with commercials on the other side.

AUD – Australian Dollar

  • Speculators: Net Long 71,869 (longs +8,098; shorts +1,046)
  • Commercials: Net Short -97,385
  • % Long Ratio: 67.79%

The Aussie is the mirror image of the Yen: the largest long speculative position in the report, with a 67.79% long ratio and commercials very heavily short.

That’s the report for this week. As always, manage your risk, size appropriately, and let the setups come to you.

See you next week.
